created an email user "viper_iii@allkinds.ods.org"
The email exists and I am able to use webmail and send mail from the account but replying to the email the server says

The mail system

it seems that postfix has an issue with "_" (the underscore)
anyone else confirm this and ideas on how to make postfix happy about this? (fix?)

Seems to be because I installed maiamailguard... that might be the issue...
I created another account and it worked no problem... just this one isn't playing nice...

allkinds.ods.org is a local domain for your postfix installation as it seems...
correct that (mydestination / mydomain)...
You should post some logs.
I think there is a warning like:
"do not list domain allkinds.ods.org in BOTH mydestination and virtual_alias_domains"
in your mail.info...

how about /var/log/mail*
but not everything - have a look at them and we all hope you see what's important.

Going on what was just stated a few posts above... about the default domain name...
its odd because the mail account bwc@allkinds.ods.org works fine....
just the email with the "_" on that particular domain... i did a r_t@tokeokies.com and that domain had no issues with anything and mail passed fine....
try to use this mail MTA and move away from my test scalix box...
