best distro - headlessb - 06-16-2007 12:28 PM

Hi, I was just wondering what the best distribution of linux would be best to use with ispCPOmega. I tried Ubuntu 7.04 but there seemed to be some packages missing from the list that's supposed to go with it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Which package? postfix-tls has been reported not to exist anymore on ubuntu so it should be ok to ignore it.

Answering your question: Debian

It wasn't postfix-tls that was the problem. I read up on posfix-tls and found out that it was included in the potfix package. It was all of the php4 packages:

php4
php4-cgi
php4-gd
php4-mcrypt
php4-mysql
php4-pear

They just aren't listed on any of the servers that I've found. I also went on ubuntu's website because they have a list of all of the packages that come with each distro, and those were not in there.

Oh, and by the way, I'm using a mac G4.

RE: best distro - Zothos - 06-17-2007 04:21 AM

that shoudn't be a problem. My friend is running a macbook with ubuntu Wink
I think nowaday the linux -> mac support is on the way to be fully implemented. So dont worry about that.

And my answer regarding your question, i prefer debian etch as my server distro. Im currently running all of my pure webserver with debian, and only the gameserver for the gaming geeks with gentoo.

Awesome, thanks a bunch. Don't have time to mess with it at this very moment but when I do try it I'll let you know.

raphael, I'll test the latest trunk now on Ubuntu 7.4 and inform you of my findings. From my last try, it was all the php4 packages and libnet-perl.

I knew there was another one, I just wasn't quite sure what it was or if I had gotten it to install or not.

Just tried on a fresh Ubuntu 7.04 install.
ispCP Build: 20070617
