[SOLVED] admin page URL fails but www.domain.tld goes to ispCP login

New to ispCP, installed on Debian Etch following installation instructions. Everything installed perfectly. I cannot access the admin page with admin.hostname.domain.tld but I can access it from http://www.domain.tld or http://www.domain.tld/admin or internal and external IP. Need to user http://www.domain.tld as a virtual site.

Need guidance,

Do you have configured the dns for domain.tld to also handle admin.hostname.domain.tld and point to the right ip?

As soon as you added the domain to ispcp they will be shown instead of ispcp - it's just: any request to the ispcp server is handled by ispcp if the domain is not known to the system.

No, I only have dns configured for http://www.domain.tld, not for admin.hostname.domain.tld. I would assume that http://www.domain.tld would go to the virtual directory I added to ispcp and not to the admin page. If anything, the admin page would not resolve at all?? I am using a single external IP and would like to have admin.hostname resolve to ispcp and www. resolve to the virtual site.
Adding a host entry for admin.hostname.domain.tld pointing to my internal IP allows me to resolve to the control panel properly. I am not real concerned with external access to the panel now but I would like to get to the virtual site.

Hm, NAT....

please read the threads and Docu here which are dealing with NAT.

Its easy:
what has to be accessed from external need some entry in a publich DNS, internally you need some entries in your host file or an internal DNS.

The DNS does not distinguish if the url is a vierual domain or the hostname for ispcp - important is only the ip address (or cname).

Right, I have public DNS for http://www.domain.tld but not for admin.hostname.domain.tld. I have a local host file entry for that. Still, http://www.domain.tld resolves to the panel not to the virtual site. If I use a host file entry for http://www.domain.tld pointing to the internal address, I still get the panel. Seems to be an issue with the server resolving the virtual URL.

Am I way off?

I greatly appreciate your help! Would I be better off rebuilding with a different domain name for the server than I am using for the virtual site?

Have you configured the virtual domain?
what did you enter when asked for the IP address?

what gives "apache2 -S" ?

Yes the virtual domain is configured and I set the external IP that I pointed to http://www.domain.tld thru my ISP.

VirtualHost configuration:
209.xxx.xxx.xxx:80 is a NameVirtualHost
default server http://www.domain.com (/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ispcp.co nf:65)
port 80 namevhost http://www.domain.com (/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ispcp .conf:65)
port 80 namevhost http://www.domain2.com (/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ispcp. conf:170)
172.16.1.100:80 admin.servername.domain.com (/etc/apache2/sites-ena bled/00_master.conf:24)

but for apache you have to configure the internal ip.

That was part of my problem. I also had the virtual domain configured improperly. I have it set up and working with a test domain. Incredible product, sorry for the newbie questions.

Problem solved, was a DNS issue :-)
