ok, I had a look and I stumbled over this

DBI:mysql:ispcp:127.0.0.1 ;ispcp ;password

instead of

DBI:mysql:ispcp:127.0.0.1;ispcp;password

A look in the ispcp.conf showed the problem:

the host and the db username had a space at the end which should not be there...

Obviously the perl scripts do not strip blank chars from theese variables....
