Cannot connect to MySQL with PMA

then i don't know waht the problem is, i can login to mysql from shell, as well as from a remote machine. But when i try to login via PMA, it states it cannot.

is there a convienient way of re-installing PMA, and it's sql information i.e. database entries, and username / password?
