wahrscheinliches Problem : "too many open files" oder "out of fds" einfach mal schauen, wie die ulimit's gesetzt sind bei dem apache. Evt. musst du den Apache selbst kompilieren mit deutlich höheren Limits.

Was auch alternativ helfen könnte, wäre eine Umstellung auf mod_log_sql anstelle der normalen Logfiles ... oder ein paar Logfiles rausnehmen. (z.Z. sinds bis zu 3 pro Domain)
