How to backup email - Hopefully with cron

Hi,
Does anyone have a simple way to perform a daily email backup of all domains? Hopefully, this can be run from cron or even remotely and the resulting file either stored for a pickup or ftp'd to another location. Need the restoration method as well if you have it. Have searched for backups and found filesystem backup, database backup and others; but haven't found a simple email backup. This may be a case of me just not looking in the right place and if that is so, please point me to correct place. Thanks for any help.
