RC3 or 1.0.0 final ?
Hello,

I have to install a control panel on new servers for 15 September 2007. I know that for the dev team, "it's done when it's done", and as I do not take part in the development, I accept this choice. (Even if in my opinion, as it is very hard to "stop" the development, it is interesting to freeze a version, even a little imperfect, to satisfy waiting users; And yes, ISP Omega is an Open Source project, and the work completed on a voluntary basis is incredible and I respect it deeply).

So as any old VHCS user, i was happy when ISP Omega project start, and i was thinking "the ISP Omega fork from VHCS will be done quickly, and latter the ISP CP new version (multi servers, modular, etc.) will be done, which is great".

But in fact I am waiting for a stable version since January, and every week I was thinking "it will be good soon". Now I haven't anymore the choice, as I must start new servers soon.

So in this case, what could be the best choice ? May i have a chance to see RC3 / 1.0.0 final versions soon ? Should i have better to install a trunk version (and in this case, which one ?) and upgrade latter ? Or should i have to install an old VHCS (hope not) ?

Thank you very much for your opinions and your experience feedbacks, for those which are using ISP Omega in production.

All depends on how many domains you are using. And how long it would take to migrate them all manually. Tongue

I will only have to migrate part of them (new ones), about 50+ domains from VHCS to ISP Omega, and i have time to migrate them Smile

But it doesn't answer which version to use now for the new server ?

The question is: would it be possible to upgrade from RC3 to stable? When it's possible then you can install RC3. The right people for this answer is Rafael or Rats.

yes, you'll be able to upgrade from each rc to the final version - but there is no rc3 yet!!

i'm using a trunk from 04.08.08 on a productive server - there are allways some bugs. and upgrading from trunk to another version means a lot of work - and no guarantee that it will work after that...

i recommend to use a trunk - but test the trunk a few days and if you think it's stable enough migratre your costumers to the new server...

I use trunk 773. It runs very stable. Some small bugs, but it works perfect.

I guess it will be possible; we've been talking about the plans and seems like everybody agrees that after RC3 is released there will be a full features freeze in order to fix existing bugs.

If that's how it happens, and I hope and guess that will be the way it will happen, upgrading from RC3 or even a possible RC4 to the final stable version would be easy and not painful like updating from trunk to trunk.

That's a good news !
However Raphael, do you think we may have a chance to see RC3 final version soon (i mean, in the 3/4 weeks) ? I know that it is a delicate question, and I would like again to thus greet for the work completed by the ISPCP Omega team !

Maybe the answer isn't how long it will take but how could we all support the developers for a quicker turn around.

Whether it be testers, equipment or even cash so the developers can take time off their normal day to day to focus on the project.

These are just ideas, please dont flame me Smile

I, too, am waiting and getting more and more desperate...
We simply need a stable IspCP pretty soon!
What can I do to assist? I can't program, but I could send a couple of hard drives 10 - 40 GB if needed.
I could also setup a server for the devs, to your complete disposal, in our serverhall if a testingbed is needed?
