RPM Macros not echoing

Hiya guys,

I am having a little trouble installing ISPCP!

I have centos in command line (no desktop) and have got up to the this part:

# echo "%_topdir ~/rpm" >> ~/.rpmmacros

I am assuming this echo's some content into the rpm folder however the rpm folder remains blank after running the command.

Any help?
