Kernel Downgrade

habe hier auf einem Server einen 2.6.31 vom RZ installiert, wobei die iptables Module fehlen ... /lib/modules/2.6.31/kernel/drivers nicht vorhanden
Kann man hierbei ein Kernel Downgrade (debian) problemlos machen?
apt-get install linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 iptables

Für was ist das denn gut?

Wenn dein aktueller Kernel nicht in irgendeiner abhänigkeit steht sollte es klappen.

die vom RZ sagen das der Kernel keine speziellen Abhängigkeiten hat ... habe das ganze aber auch noch nie gemacht :-)

damit müssten doch alle notwendigen Module für iptables erzeugt werden:

Ab 4GB solltest Du eigentlich den bigmem nehmen.
Ja das sollte so hinhauen mit deiner vorgehensweise.
Musst wahrscheinlich noch die grub.lst anpassen damit dieser Kernel default ist.
Sonst bist Du nach dem neustart wieder mit dem gleichen unterwegs.

OK - habe das bigmem image und headers nun installiert ...
Danach update-grub ausgeführt - ist die neue menu.lst so richtig, da steht oben auch noch mal: kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/sda1

Hast Du deinen Softwareraid ?
Hatte es auf meinen Maschinen das Grub immer und immer wieder auf /dev/sda1 zeigt anstat auf md1.

Was mir aber seltsam vorkommt, oben der Kopf in der neuen menu.lst ... muss das noch auskommentiert werden?

I würde mal ja sagen, sonst greift das ja schon bevor Du zum eigentlich Teil der config kommst.

Fall nicht, hast Du ja sicher einen Rescue-Modus oder?
