Bei Debian und Ubuntu sollte standardmäßig mod_deflate geladen sein. Die Standardkonfiguration befindet sich unter "mods-available/deflate.conf". Ich würde allerdings empfehlen, aus Kompatibilitätsgründen eine separate Datei anzulegen und via a2enmod zu aktivieren.
