Features question
From what i can see, this software will provide management of domain, email, statistics and FTP. I was wondering, if I wanted to offer my customers more such as SQL databases, CGI's, a website creator, etc. can Omega do this?

So far I LOVE what I see!

RE: Features question
I'm loving the quick responses in this forum. Does it need to be installed on it's own server? Or can I run it through my own hosting account (until I purchase my own server)?

RE: Features question
ispCP requires either a dedicated server or a virtual machine. It will not work on reseller accounts or shared hosting because of the way it needs to operate with the system.

@cyrus

Please have a look at the demo (see Posts from BeNe - his signature) - then you'll see what's "in the box".

I said "you can add this feature", because it's open source...
a web site creator is not included... yet...

And: since this software should manage most of the web-, mail and other services you'll need your own root-server.

RE: Features question
With the price of Virtual Private Servers been low it shouldn't be to much of a strain using one for an install of ISPCP Omega instead of having a shared hosting account

Good point, my current host can give me one for $29/month. Not too bad to test this out.

But additionally you need (alot) more Linux OS knowledge to keep it secure, cause a VPS just is a complete OS you should manage. If you don't have any of this but do want to rent hosting to people it's best to get a reseller package or something somewhere.

RE: Features question
theres the general house keeping and backups as well.

anyway you'd be surprised at the amount of hosts and isps that don't harden.

think in your situation vps is the way to go until you get your own dedicated server :-)

If you just want to try ISPCP then vmware server is quite handy :-)

EDIT : I forgot the all important task, proactive and reactive monitoring. If you have a phone or pda that supports imapidle its very useful Smile

RE: Features question
I'm in the process of finding an IT partner to help because I know I can't do everything that's needed. I have no server admin experience and very little Linux experience.

Vmware server is really interesting, thanks for the tip.
