totally new and totally stuck!!!!

hi all

sorry for being really really stupid but have no idea what im doing. i want to install the virtual host package but no idea where im installing it to. am i uploading it onto a server or my database. im using joomla as a cms and have no idea where to begin with this

well, the question is not silly - but it tells alot about you

ispCP is designed to be installed (there are severall installation guides, see in the docu here or in the downloaded package) before any virtual server/customer - the easiest is to install it on a freshly installed debian etch on a root server...

I'll bite ... I'm bored sort of...

My Joomla install is making me upset over here... but my ISP-CP is pretty stable...

First either create a New Virtual Machine in VMware Server (Free) or set aside a free PC for use and installation of Debian Etch.

Download Debian Etch and burn the network install disk...

Now here it depends on how you are going to install...

My first questions should be answered I guess...
a: Do you just want to host your own website?
Could use Xampp for that much easier
b: do you want to host many websites with each person only being able to control their own?
c: do you have a dns setup with a provider or yourself?
d: are you on a home residential connection with dynamic addressing to your firewall?
e: do you have a firewall?
f: do you know how to configure port forwarding?
g: have you used putty for ssh before?
h: have you setup joomla and configured mysql before?
i: have you used phpmyadmin before?
j: what is your technical background?

NONE of these should STOP you from proceeding... but it will help to know how to proceed...
