Question Subdomains don't work correctly
DAMN - SCROLL DOWN TO THE END Sad

Hello,

First: My System is Debian 5.0 Lenny 64bit and my domain is vecho.de.

I installed ispCP 1.0 Stable on it with the Installation guide in the Dcoumentation (Installation > Debian > English).

So, first, I changed my hostname and the hosts file to burak-webserver.vecho.de I was confused about the "myfullyqualified.hostname.tld". I thinked I should replace "myfullyqualified" with my hostname (this was burak-webserver) and the "hostname.tld" should be vecho.de

So, i changed it to burak-webserver.vecho.de

This was wrong I think, okay, I changed in the hosts file something and then I did the installation from ispCP.

I think it worked correctly, but I was confused again what I should type in domain name, because there was burak-webserver.vecho.de already typed in.

Now, it installed ispCP and I start my browser and went to "http://admin.vecho.de". This didnt work! (Now it works, something to this later...). Then I opened http://www.vecho.de. This works correctly, I logged in and everything worked fine.

I wanted to add some reseller but the domain which I can choice was "burak-webserver.vecho.de". And this is not my right domain =/.

So, I changed /etc/hostname to vecho.de, edited the /etc/hosts file and copy /etc/hostname to /etc/mailname. After this i edited the ispcp.conf file and changed my SERVER_NAME to vecho.de and in phpmyadmin the ip adress with domainname.

So, I hope you understand what I did all Big Grin Big Grin.

Now, I can add reseller and users, but the Subdomains dont work =/.

I have an domain at HostEurope. I changed there DNS settings with adding: *.vecho.de as CNAME to vecho.dyndns.org (its a home PC Wink).

NOW: http://admin.vecho.de works! http://www.admin.vecho.de works too! If I write something else like http://www.bullshit.vecho.de its the same! Wink

Okay, this works fine, I hope it dont make trouble later cause I want to set http://www.vecho.de as user domain.

Okay, like I said I add some user to ispCP: burak.vecho.de.

The weird thing is: http://burak.vecho.de dont work. http://www.burak.vecho.de works!

So, my question is, what is wrong with DNS settings? Must I add something to the DNS settings from my domain hoster or is the setting from apache wrong?

I hope you understand what I said and thanks for any helping!

If you need a bind9 log I don't found this log. I have everything else, I think ^^.

So, very thanks for helping and good job guys!

Burak

EDIT:
Damn, after I wrote this it works now ~~. It's always the same with my problems lol.

Ok, but another questions. Could there any problems cause I changed the hostname from my server ? Or did I forget something?

Thank you guys!

EDIT2:
Hmm, my pc is now offline cause I dont need it now at the afternoon. Tomorow its again online but I think you dont need really a "live demo"? I explained the most in my text ^^

RE: Subdomains don't work correctly
Now, I hope, it work's all but I have still one question ^^.

If i type in my browser http://admin.vecho.de I get the admin login page of ispCP. If I type any other thing like "subdomain.vecho.de" I get the admin page too.

Can I disable this some way? Or is that because I add *.vecho.de as CNAME in my DNS Settings at my Domain Hoster?

RE: Subdomains don't work correctly
Normaly, if you create the useraccount vecho.de, all subdomain.vecho.de will be redirected to the vecho.de site and not to admin.vecho.de

Yeah, but I didn't create the useraccount vecho.de yet.

I have another account "burak.vecho.de". If I add anything before the subdomain name I will redericted to the site burak.vecho.de

So, what I want is that if I type anyname which dont exist, I get an error message from firefox or IE or whatever that this site dont exist. I hope you understand it ^^".

RE: Subdomains don't work correctly
That's possible, but you have to edit the vhost.

There was also something similar a few days ago at the german forum

Hmmm, okay, thanks first Lucan.

I edited the als_entry.tpl, dmn_entry.tpl, sub_entry.tpl in the /etc/ispcp/apache/parts directory.

Then I regenerate the config and restart Apache, but it doenst change everything =/.

I can still visit http://something.vecho.de .

Did I forget something ?

RE: Subdomains don't work correctly
Don't know, but as far as I can see, the editings mentioned in the other thread are for the domain, so u may have to create the account for your domain first.

Or edit other files, but I don't know it realy, it's just an idear.
