it takes LOT of time to regenerate ALL configs
you can switch to another console and look into ps -fax output periodically

Same problem on an etch system: Rebuilding all customer configuration files keeps hanging. Received the error and changed the worker setting. How can i check that the upgrade is still running? what to look for in ps -fax?

I don receive any other error messages
