DNS problems Heeeelp :)
Hi,

alright, picture this:

I have a server with PLESK running with its own nameserver and 2 IP's. A few domains run on there.

I setup a new server which has 1 IP, nothing more. (Debian Etch)

I install ispcp-omega, so far so good.

On the PLESK server I create:

webserver2.mydomain.com (A) IPofISPCPomegaServer
admin.webserver2.mydomain.com (A) IPofISPCPomegaServer

In ISPCP I create the user with domain webserver2.mydomain.com.

--I can now access the ispcp server with that but now

ns1.webserver2.mydomain.com (A) IPofISPCPomegaServer
webserver2.mydomain.com (NS) ns1.webserver2.mydomain.com

If I know create myotherdomain.com in ISPCP, and in the provider control panel of the domain I place "ns1.webserver2.mydomain.com" as "use my own dns" I get "Nameserver invalid!"

What am I doing wrong here?

I read that a few times and finding it difficult to get an appreciation for the issue.

What is the provider panel? Is this ISPCP, Plesk or a 3rd party host?

Cheers Smile

the provider where I registered the domain. They have their own domain cp where I can set which DNS servers to use. PLESK servers dns work. ISPCP dns does not.

aaarrrrr I understand now

first things first. port 53 isn't blocked on the ISP CP Omega server?

Is ns1.webserver2.mydomain.com (Think this is your ISPCP Server) resolvable from outside those servers. (can you ping the name from your workstation and get resolution and reply).

I was about to say the next stage is to query it from an external source lol

Sorry to hear about the Plesk server, I to have heard cases of plesk been hacked (defacements etc). Just the general problems that shared hosting platforms have, they are exposed to the elements and all it takes is someone uploading some dodgy code to their site.
